Remembering Christmas

Last year I got an ereader for Christmas. We bought a simple and cheap one, just to be sure I would like it. So, this year I was going to ask Santa husband for a Kindle Fire. Then I saw the price, and decided an affordable tablet would do the same thing at more than half the price. So, I got a very affordable tablet that I love. It is wifi accessible and an ereader, which are the two things I wanted most. Of course it has other perks too. One of the first apps I put on my tablet was the Kindle app. This allows me to download books to my ereader from the Kindle store, plus each day you get a variety of books offered for free. One of the books I got, for free, was Remembering Christmas by Dan Walsh. Now normally I read the same three authors and I love them. I do not stray from them very often. But, I decided to expand my reading wings and give some new authors a try. Remembering Christmas is a sweet and touching book. Well worth the read. I wouldn't say it was a rock star book, but at least 3.5 stars. It even made me cry a little. I think lots of people can relate to this book, so check it out. Soon I will be be doing a review on a couple of risque books. Definitely out of my reading scope, LOL!

Buy A Tablet For Christmas

I have been dead set about NOT getting one of these tablets.  I thought how dumb to carry around a big bulky thing that does not look user friendly, or undroppable/breakable with ease.  Last year I got an Ereader for Christmas.  A cheap one, 7 inches, yet I love it.  No wifi or anything fancy.  I wanted a Kindle Fire for Christmas this year.  Have been looking forward to getting one.  But, then I saw these 7 inch tablets, which by the way I think are the perfect size, and at an awesome price too.  I have already bought it, and I can use it as an ereader too.  I get it well before Christmas, but it will be wrapped up to go under the tree.  So, I can't play with it for a while.  We have a PC and a laptop, but with kids that I homeschool they are on it a lot, and I get less and less computer time.  This will be the perfect solution.  BTW I don't do Smart Phones either.  I don't know how anyone can do anything online on that little screen.  My old lady eyes are way too old for that, LOL!

Since we are so close to Christmas, I will be sharing my favorite products, wish list, buying list and just cool items some of you might love, in the next weeks.

Work From Home Selling Soil

First off this is a post done by me, and I have no affiliation or experience with the company mentioned. All I do is help steer people who want to work from home to opportunities I find. If you have experience in the Agriculture field, then Larger Harvest might be the work from home job for you. You can become a dealer, and in some states there doesn't appear to be very many dealers, so you wouldn't have a ton of competition. Obviously you would have to have contacts in the industry to help you get to people who want to buy the product, which is basically organic enriched soil. The Larger Harvest website states you don't have to buy or distribute the product directly, you just make the sales. If you are interested in learning more visit the Larger Harvest, become a dealer webpage.

Odd Interlude: An Odd Thomas Book

If you follow the Odd Thomas series, by Dean Koontz, then you know he has a new book out in the series, Odd Apocalypse. What you might not know is that there is also a set of novellas that are part of the series as well called, Odd Interlude. I had been looking for these forever in paperback, but could only find them on the ereader. So finally I broke down and bought all three of them. I am so glad I did, because these three novellas actually come in the story after book four, and before book five. I just thought they were some kind of a spinoff to Odd Thomas, but they are not, they are actually part of the storyline. Though there are a few new interesting characters introduced, that I hope will become their own novel spinoffs. I have no idea why Dean Koontz made these ones three different novellas instead of one novel. They are short, easy reads and I really enjoyed them. I am 3/4 of the way done with Odd Apocalypse and it is so good now, I can hardly put it down. If you are a Dean Koontz fan, Odd Thomas is the softer, gentler side to Koontz characters. He is smart, funny, kind and oh yeah he can communicate with the dead. He really is a wonderful character that Koontz invented.

Advertise Your Blog With Blogclicker

I get bored very easy. Yet, I still need to drive traffic to my blogs. Since I am cheap I am always looking for ways to drive traffic that are free. I have been using Entrecard, for several years, and it works quite well. However, like I said I get bored very easy. There are a lot of blogs on Entrecard that you can visit and hopefully they will visit you back. Many are not active though, and I get tired of seeing the same post for the past two years. So, basically I see the same blogs all the time, boring at times. I just recently found Blogclicker. I have been using it for almost two weeks now. It is a traffic exchange. You view blogs, get blog views in return. So simple. Check it out, and join if you like.

Can You Shave Your Eyebrows?

Yes! How do I know? Because I have been shaving mine for a number of years. It does take a bit of practice to learn not to shave your eyebrows off completely, LOL, but it is much more comfortable and affordable than plucking or waxing. Like with other things you might shave, be sure to wet it first, use a good razor, pull the skin taught, and add moisturizer after. I love the Venus Breeze razors, for all shaving purposes. The two moisturizing bars on this particular razor, are fabulous. They are a little pricey but they last forever, and work so nice. Your legs will feel wonderful too!

Healthy Tip for Today: Grow Your Own Vegetables

OK, I have not been able to do a healthy tip for a while, just so much going on this time of year. Grow your own veggies and herbs. If you live in the city, or do not have space to grow your own vegetables, container gardening is for you. They don't take up a whole lot of room, and you can even put them in your home. There are tons of resources for container gardening. It has become quite popular. Seeds are very inexpensive, and you control the pesticides applied. Certain vegetables, like tomatoes and red peppers are extremely expensive. But, by growing your own, you can save a lot of money. I have been container gardening outside. This Winter I am going to try and grow certain veggies in the home, in a controlled environment. Next week I will give some tips on how to keep critters off your plants. Happy gardening! http://www.sunset.com/garden/fruits-veggies/how-to-grow-veggies-in-pots-00400000012149/

How To Keep Fleas Out Of Your House

Man I have had a crazy two weeks. I was bitten by a nasty spider, and have been nursing the wound ever since. I will finally return to work this Saturday. I will get a healthy tip post up soon, and another work at home find. But, first I want to talk about fleas. We live in Florida, and there are pretty much fleas here all year. Where there is sand, there are sand fleas. We have two dogs. A large dog, and a small dog. Since I despise bugs in my home, keeping fleas at bay is very important to me. People always ask me, how do you keep fleas off your dogs? First of all let me say you can not literally keep fleas off your dog or cat. We also have a rabbit, and it is important for him as well. He lives in an enclosed room in the garage, so fleas are not really a problem for him. This is what I do for the dogs. As a note we have tried every available product on the market. Most only work short term or not at all. We have also tried eco friendly options, such as Dawn dish soap, vinegar, bleach etc. While these might work they are very time consuming and need to be done every single day. Since having my home smell like vinegar is not really an option either, I stick to what works well. 1. Comfortis is what we use. It works for 30 days, and is an affordable chewable tablet. I will put up a link for anyone who might be interested in trying it. We only give it every 60 days, and one tablet gets split between both dogs. It works by killing the fleas, when the fleas bite your pet. It is about 20 dollars for the tablet for a large dog. So we pay about 120 dollars per year. In the winter, if we get a cold winter, we don't always give it over the winter months, so it is usually even less money. 2. If you can remove rugs from your home. If you can not be sure to vacuum everyday and shampoo the rugs at least once a month. 3. Bathe your pet frequently. In peak flea season, which is August and September here, they are bathed once a week. Other warm months, once a month, and winter time not at all unless warm enough. 4. I sweep or vacuum my tile floors every day. I also vacuum the living room furniture every single day. If a flea gets in your home they can begin laying eggs immediately. One flea can lay hundreds of eggs. Vacuuming your furniture, and then dump the dirt in the garbage and take it out, will alleviate egg laying issues. 5. If you do get an explosion of fleas, wash all floors, and curtains in hot water. You may have to bomb the house. We have only had to do this once, and it was before we started using the Comfortis. That is how we avoid the nasty fleas, and it works awesome!

Sunset Painting

I continue to get better at my painting skills. Most of my paintings will be available to purchase for $24.99 in my Etsy store. They are signed and dated, and since I only do one of each, they are truly one of a kind. I probably will do more sunsets, but I doubt I can get them to look exactly the same. This one has a funny story to it. My daughter wanted me to paint our Lab. I tried, but it just didn't look right. So, the only way I could fix it was to turn her head into the sun and add all the other stuff to it, LOL! My mom, who is our painting teacher, said this was very, very good. What do you think? I actually have quite a few to share with all of you, just need time to get them up and going. I do have one tip, for anyone who wants to learn to paint. You can watch other artists all you want, you will get a basic idea, but you will learn your own style and technique the more you paint.

Pre-Order the new Odd Thomas Book by Dean Koontz

I have been waiting for Dean Koontz to release a new Odd Thomas book. Finally, in July 2012 the new Dean Koontz book, Odd Apocalypse, will be released. I love the Odd Thomas series. He is one of the most loveable characters I have ever read about. Don't miss the chance to preorder yours now. It does not appear it will be released for Ereaders, which is a big bummer.

Healthy Pasta Salad

So what do you all think of the new Blogger changes?  I don't know it will take a bit of getting used to.  My healthy tip for this week, is to try and change to salads that don't require mayonnaise.  Mayo is high in fat and calories.  A pasta salad can be tweaked to add more veggies, less pasta, a bit of meat, and the dressing can be extremely light.  Also if you make pasta one night and you have some left over just save it for the next day, and make a pasta salad.  Then no food is being wasted and it will save you some cook time.  My pasta salad includes:

Pasta:  Any kind, but for more bang for your pasta buck, try whole grains and I love the new veggie pastas.
Dressing:  Zesty Italian, you can use Raspberry Vinaigrette, or Red Wine Vinegar as well.
Cherry tomatoes but any choppy tomato will do.
Bell Peppers of any color
Onions preferably Vidalia onions
Black Olives
Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese
Cucumbers

Just mix it all together, chill and voila a complete dinner or serve it with burgers, chicken or even hot dogs.

Healthy Tip of the Week: Use Skim Milk

All right so I can't remember to post on Thursday, for the healthy tip, so I will just do it one day during the week when I remember. This is to help anyone who wants to lose weight, or just be healthier. To me they go hand in hand, though I suppose some people who are fortunate enough to eat badly, yet still be skinny, can be very unhealthy.

I can't believe how many adults still drink whole milk, or even 2% milk. The fat and cholesterol in these should be enough to convince you to switch to skim milk. Skim milk has no fat, zip, zero none and only 86 calories. Skim milk does have 8mg of Cholesterol per serving, which is technically a type of fat, but still less than whole milk. Whole milk has 146 calories, 8gm of fat, and 24 mg of cholesterol. Yikes you can see how milk can very quickly add to your waist line. But we need milk, it is very important source of calcium and protein. I don't even cook with whole milk either. All cheese is at least part skim. Of my two kids, my son switched to skim milk at the age of two, and my daughter still drinks whole milk only because she does not gain fat very easily at all. Most children don't need whole milk after a certain age. It just adds fat and calories to their diet. But you should always discuss with your Pediatrician. Switch to skim milk, and part skim cheese, and watch your diet and your waistline improve.

Healthy Thursday, Kindle Fire and Amazon

A while back I had been doing a fun post on this blog, about eating and being healthy. I stopped, but now I want to start it up again. I have lost twenty pounds with diet moderation and exercise. I want to share some of the things I have learned about myself, diet and exercise with all of you. So for this weeks Healthy Thursday tip, I am going to share that to reduce sodium in my diet, yet get that taste, I use Red Wine Vinegar on meats and cooked veggies. It is great on salads as well. You only need a little bit, few shakes, and it is awesome. You can use more on meats, because the meat soaks it up. I very rarely ever cook with salt anymore, and have limited the table salt as well, for everyone, not just me. Sodium makes you retain water, thereby inhibiting weight loss. If you have kidney disease, or any other disease, do not limit your diet without consulting your doctor or dietitian first. I am a healthy 42 yr old woman with no underlying illnesses.

I want a Kindle Fire! My husband got me a Kobo reader for Christmas, and I love it. Now I want one with all the bells and whistles. I probably will have to wait until Christmas again, but I am a very patient woman, well most of the time, lol!

Speaking of Amazon, did you know you can sign up to put items on your blog, and if anyone buys anything from your blog you will get a percentage. Be sure to read the terms, because some states it is not allowed. Now I will admit I am not a great salesperson, but I have made a few dollars doing it. If you are a better salesperson than me, what can it hurt? Just click the Amazon link to check it out.

Ebook Reviews

I had mentioned before that I got a nice shiny ereader for Christmas, from my hubby. I have been borrowing ebooks from my local library. The last one I read was, Split Second, by Catherine Coulter. It is supposed to be an FBI thriller, but I found nothing thrilling about it. It was slow, and just not interesting to me. This is the first book I have read by this author and I am skeptical to read another. Have you read any of her books? Did you like them?

Now I am reading, Miss Perigrines Home for Peculiar Children, by Ransom Riggs. The name of the book, as well as the author's name intrigued me, and got my attention, so I am reading it. It is quite an interesting book so far. I wouldn't say it is a edge of my seat kind of book, but it does keep my interest and has a great storyline so far. I look forward to finishing this book.

The Quickie by James Patterson

I loved the book, The Quickie, by James Patterson. It was fast moving, exciting, suspenseful and keeps you on the edge of your seat. My kind of book for sure. I read mine on my trusty ereader, that my hubby got me for Christmas. I love my ereader, don't know why I waited so long to get one. Do you have an ereader?

Freelance Music Video Editor

Freelance Music Video Editor

Job Number: 42190993
Company Name:Entertainment Industry Employer
Location: San Francisco / Anywhere, CA US
Career Focus:Arts, Entertainment & Gaming / Media & Communication

Updated: 1/8/2012
Freelance Music Video Editor
To Whom it May Concern:

BAMM.tv, an up and coming music and video production and distribution company, is seeking top-notch freelance music video editors for contract work. Over the past two years BAMM has produced hundreds of projects with a large variety of musicians. We're currently building a network of highly skilled editors to complete previously shot projects that have not yet seen the light of day. These videos will potentially be seen by millions of viewers across the world, so quality and creativity are paramount.

We will start by selecting editors whose reels demonstrate a strong understanding and intuition for pairing music and video. Each chosen editor will start with an audition project - that is, we will offer one song by an artist for you to edit as an example of your approach to our footage. You will be paid for your work, and the video will then be reviewed by our in-house post-production team, which will examine your video for quality and creativity, determining to what extent we would like to invite you to work with us in the future.

On average, an editor may spend between 7 - 14 hours editing, revising and completing one nicely polished video from one of our sets, depending on the nature of the music and the footage. Please respond indicating your level of interest and availability to edit BAMM music videos on a regular freelance basis. Shortly thereafter we will arrange a way to give you footage with instructions on how to edit the piece.

We believe this is a great opportunity for skilled editors to make money on the side while also boosting a portfolio. As mentioned, BAMM's content reaches viewers in over 150 countries and is featured with major content distributors through various channels. We believe BAMM is innovating a new business model for the music industry, helping musicians make money and gain exposure without big label influence. We are extremely proud of the caliber of our artists, our business partners, and the quality of our content, and are very excited about some of our major upcoming releases (namely an iPad app, and a new website), through which many of the videos we produce in the coming months will be featured. We hope you find the opportunity as exciting as we do.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to the possibility of working with you.
